it has been years since i've walked down olvera street, but i still remember how mesmerizing it was. so this week seemed like a good time to head west and revisit an old favorite.

this place was just as vibrant and beautiful as i remembered.

even the surrounding darkness could not block out the lights and colors.

i really wanted to visit during dia de los muertos this year,

so i was very happy and excited when i found out that others wanted to as well.

i absolutely adored the decorations all around. total eye candy.

this nice lady was preparing to leave for the night when i stopped by the table. to my surprise, she offered to squeeze me in for one last face painting. thank you! ♥

during the celebration, we found ourselves at the front of the crowd-- standing right next to the performers! the costumes were pretty neat.

everyone was so friendly. strangers hugged me, talked to me, and even stopped for pictures.

i loved that the altars were so detailed and elaborate

there were lots of pictures of loved ones-- people i did not know,

but i recognized the famous jaime escalante. huskies represent!

and to end the night, we took a late night stroll through the empty streets of chinatown.
